JoJo starred on season 2 of ''Abby's Ultimate Dance Competition'', a reality competition series on Lifetime that pits talented dancers against each other to fight to the finish, with the winner receiving a Joffrey Ballet scholarship. Due to this prior relationship with Abby Lee Miller, JoJo was brought onto the Abby Lee Dance Company's junior elite competition team as a guest during season 5 of ''Dance Moms'' and finally secured a permanent spot on the team in season 6.
