Royal is the only B-Girl in WDSF history who won all Youth and Adult World as well as Continental Championships, plus the Adult IWGA World Games 2025, in one calender year .[2] She just took everything between her sweet 16 to 17 years old.
On January 17 - 18, 2025, Pu will attend the Adult and Youth WDSF BfG World Series 2026 in Brisbane, Australia. We will see if anyone can end her winning series.
Biography
Guo Pu's parents were considered as ordinary people — her father was a bank employee in Pingyi and her mother was a housewife, and she also has an older brother and a younger sister. The family was not well-off, but they were willing to spend a lot of effort on educating their children. [3]
“She is the second child in the family. She could sing and dance from a very young age and was very talented. Seeing her outstanding talents in arts and sports, we enrolled her in tutoring classes in electronic keyboard, traditional Chinese painting, and folk dance, hoping to improve her overall qualities in the future.” Guo Pu’s mother said when talking about her hobbies, “Once, she was preparing to participate in the county’s arts competition, so she practiced the electronic keyboard solo “Weaving Flower Baskets”. As a result, she memorized the entire score in less than a week.”
Opportunity always favors the prepared. In 2016, Guo Pu was recommended by her tutor to participate in the Pingyi Spring Festival Gala. Unexpectedly, 李士龙 (Li Shilong), a senior breaking coach who was a judge on the show, recognized her talent and encouraged her to switch to breaking. "At that time, I found this little girl to be amazing. She sang and played instruments on the show, which was very dynamic and musical, making her particularly suitable for breakdancing. After that, she met me and started learning street dance. From the beginning, she amazed me because she learned so quickly. Soon, six months later, she and a few other boys won a group championship, which boosted her confidence in dancing. After winning the award, I discussed with her parents whether we could send her to the street dance club every day. Unexpectedly, her parents were very supportive," 李士龙 (Li Shilong) recalled. At the age of seven when she was in first grade, Guo Pu joined the Linyi 0539 Street Dance Club (沂0539街舞俱) under the tutelage of him. Docu about 10yo Pu.
From then on, as soon as "Xiao Guo" (little fruit) got out of school, he would throw down his schoolbag and have her parents take him to the 0539 Street Dance Club founded by Teacher Li, who did this already for seven years. “She is quite talented and has a great physique. In addition, she has studied folk dance and double-row electronic keyboard, so she has a good sense of rhythm. She is naturally gifted to learn breakdancing.” Li Shilong still can’t hide his excitement when talking about the first time he met Guo Pu. “I didn’t misjudge her. She learns very quickly. She learned the first move I taught her, the ‘three-point support,’ in just one lesson. She also learned the ‘windmill’ move in one lesson, while other children need at least two months to learn it. More importantly, she has a light in her eyes, which is especially important for a dancer.”
With a sparkle in her eyes, Guo Pu, under the careful guidance of Coach 李士龙 (Li Shilong), gradually developed a love for breaking, just like him. Every day after school, she would arrive at the club promptly at 6 p.m. without fail, practicing until 10 p.m. before going home. On Saturdays and Sundays, she would practice from morning till night. If she hadn't finished her schoolwork, she would take it to the club to complete it before training.
After more than two months of training, After more than two months of training, 李士龙 (Li Shilong) began arranging competitions for Guo Pu. He felt that to improve her dance skills, competitions were essential. In reality, this is a double-edged sword; some people can be crushed by it and never recover. Fortunately, Guo Pu is a competitive dancer; the bigger the stage and the bigger the occasion, the better she performs. Although she was nervous at the beginning of competitions and experienced periods of stagnation, she persevered. began arranging competitions for Guo Pu.
In 2017, Coach 李士龙 (Li Shilong) took Pu to the "Breakout Frontline" competition. This was Pu's first time participating in a large-scale competition, but due to a lack of experience, she was eliminated in the round of 16. After leaving the stage, she felt she had let down her teacher and everyone's expectations, and she burst into tears. Seeing her so upset, 李士龙 (Li Shilong) quickly went over to comfort her, saying, "When learning breakdancing, results aren't the most important thing. The key is what you learn and experience here. Don't worry about the results; just be the best version of yourself and dance happily." Since then, Guo Pu has trained even harder. Whenever she couldn't learn new moves or break through her limits, she would adjust her emotions and try to find a new feeling with the coach's guidance. If the technical difficulty was not high enough, she would use sports equipment to increase her physical training and improve time and time again while sweating profusely. With her improved skills, she was able to withstand various pressures in later competitions, and her breakdancing results improved with each competition.
For Royal, in order to make her movements more visually appealing and technically proficient, she not only practices dance moves extensively every day, but also undergoes related physical and strength training. In each competition, she tries her best to present something different. "If the same routine moves are not fresh, that is the charm of breakdancing 1-on-1 duels in competitions. Sometimes I compete for more than 10 rounds in a competition before I can get a good ranking."
In 2018 and 2019, she consecutively claimed the women's division championship at the ‘Tianxia Budance’ ('天下布舞') competition, setting new records for the youngest competitor at the age of nine and ten in the competition's history.
In 2020, she signed with the Shandong Provincial Gymnastics Management Center (山东省体操管理中心).
In September 2021, representing Shandong Province, she placed sixth in the women's category of the breakdancing event at the 14th National Games.
In September 4, 2022, she claimed the women's title at the China Street Dance League (Nanjing leg), Guo Pu defeated 彭颖 (Peng Ying) 3-1 to claim the women's breakdancing championship, advancing to the top 32 of the World Breakdancing Championships in October. In 2022, at the Shandong Provincial Games, she contributed a silver medal to the Linyi breakdancing event (Group C). In December 2022, at the Chinese National Breaking Team selection trials and the 2022 China Street Dance League (Shanghai leg), Guo Pu reached the semi-finals in the women's Breaking competition. She claimed third place in the women's championship final. On December 17-18, 2022, she secured gold in the women's breakdancing category at the second Yangtze River Delta Street Dance Open.
In April 23, 2023, she successfully challenged the national team at the China Street Dance League (Nanjing leg). On May 28, 2023, at the 2023 China Street Dance League (Wuhan leg), Guo Pu secured second place in the women's division. In August, at the 2023 China Street Dance League (Jinan leg), Guo Pu won the women's open division championship with a unanimous 3-0 victory. On 29 October 2023, at the inaugural National Street Dance Championships, Guo Pu claimed second place in the women's division. In November 2023, she secured the women's individual championship at the First National Student (Youth) Games of the People's Republic of China breakdancing competition, Guo Pu claimed the women's individual title.
In April 21, 2024, she secured the championship in the women's open division of the 2024 China Street Dance League (Xingtai leg). On 8 September, at the 2024 China Street Dance League (Nanjing leg), Royal claimed the women's open division championship. On 28 September, at the 2024 World Youth B-Dance Championships, Pu of Team China advanced from the women's qualifying round. On 10 November, the Second National Street Dance Championships concluded successfully at the Sports and Arts Gymnasium of South China Forestry University in Tianxin District, Changsha. Royal Style from the Yantai Sports Training Centre in Shandong Province secured second place in the Women's Open Breaking category.
On 5 January 2025, the 2024 China Street Dance League Grand Finals concluded at Shijiazhuang International Expo Centre, with she claiming the Women's Open Division championship. On 14 April, 2025; Pu secured the Bgirl Cypher title at the 2025 ‘BATTLE KING’ International Street Dance Challenge (Grand Finals). In May, she was selected for China's breakdancing team roster at the 12th World Games. On 18 May, 2025, Royal secured second place in the women's open breakdancing category at the 2025 China Street Dance League (Wuhan leg). On 28 June, the 2025 Asian Youth B-Dance Championships concluded with Chinese competitor Pu securing the gold medal in the women's division. On 29 June, the 2025 Asian B-Dance Championships concluded at Shanghai's Luwan Gymnasium, where Chinese competitor Guo Pu once again claimed victory in the adult division, achieving back-to-back championships. On 9 July, she was selected for the roster of the 12th World Games.
On 17 August, 2025, in the women's breakdancing final of the 2025 Chengdu World Games breakdancing competition, China's Guo Pu claimed the championship. On 29 August, Guo Pu claimed the women's title at the 2025 World Youth Breakdancing Championships. On 2 September, Guo Pu was awarded the title of ‘International-Class Athlete’. On 18 November, in the women's gold medal match of the 15th National Games of the People's Republic of China Breaking Competition, Guo Pu lost 1-2 to Liu Qingyi, securing the silver medal. On 7 December, Guo Pu claimed victory in the women's open division final of the 2025 China Street Dance League Finals B-Boying competition, impressing with highly creative choreography and flawless execution. On 13 December, at the 2025 World B-Boying Championships held in Fukuoka, Japan, Pu defeated three consecutive Japanese competitors starting from the quarter-finals to ultimately claim the championship title - marking the first time a Chinese competitor secured gold at the World Breaking Championships. Commencing in the quarter-finals, she consecutively defeated Japanese competitors Aya Hanai, Hiyo Yamada, and Ayumi Fukushima. In the final, she secured victory with an overwhelming 30-point margin. Her performance featured a fluid rock step establishing the foundation in the first round, followed by a signature Thomas full spin delivering a decisive impact in the second round. Youth Olympic Summer Games Dakar 2026
Main Event from October 30 to November 13, 2026 in Senegal
To be eligible, athletes must be between 13 and 17 years old by the Games' closing ceremony, hold a World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) ID card, and have participated in a WDSF-approved competition in the 2025/2026 season. The event marks another appearance for Breaking on the Olympic stage after its debut at the 2024 Summer Youth Olympics in Gangwon4
Breaking is featured for the second time at the Summer Youth Olympics after making its debut at the 2024 Games in Gangwon. The World DanceSport Federation sees the Dakar 2026 event as a milestone for Breaking, calling it a "historic event" for youth Breaking.
The criteria of participation are: Be no older than 17 years and no younger than 13 years on the day of the closing ceremony (November 13, 2026). Possess a valid WDSF ID Card for the 2025/2026 season. Participate in at least one WDSF-approved Breaking competition listed in the 2025/2026 WDSF competition calendar. Hold a valid passport of the country they represent. Comply with all WDSF rules and regulations.
Qualification
How breaking is judged and scored in Olympics
An odd-numbered panel of judges score each round and each battle, and judge breakers’ performance based on five criteria:
- Technique: Certain moves have certain criteria, such as keeping feet flexed versus toes pointed on many moves. But technique also includes the judges’ view of how athletic the breakers are, and how well they control their bodies.
- Vocabulary: Breakers must perform a variety of moves in multiple positions—both in down rock and top rock—to score well here.
- Execution: While this may sound similar to technique, the World DanceSport Federation rule book says that on execution, breakers are judged on how cleanly their moves are performed—that is, they don’t mess up—and how distinct one more is from the next. The moves should flow together, but not blend together.
- Musicality: Here, breakers are judged on their ability to not just perform incredible moves, but to dance—staying on beat, and timing their moves to the music.
- Originality: Having that personal style is what sets people apart. It’s about what can one bring to the table and what can one add to breaking.
Instead of assigning a number to each of these criteria, judges use a digital slider, sliding towards the breaker who is winning the head to head matchup in that category. So if Breaker A is performing with better technique than Breaker B, judges will slide the slider towards their side—either a little bit, or all the way. Each of the five categories accounts for 20 percent of the final score. Based on the balance of the sliders in these five criteria, one breaker is declared the winner of each round.
